Veteran actress Neena Gupta is all set to star in Netflix’s anthology film Lust Stories 2. The teaser and trailer of the same gave an indication that she plays a hilarious character of a woman who doesn’t shy away speaking about sex despite appearing traditional otherwise. In a recent conversation, Gupta looked back at the experience when she did a bold act of a kissing scene for Hindi television back in the 1990s. The act was considered bold because back then kissing scenes were not normal even in Bollywood movies.

The scene happened for a TV show called Dillagi for which, Gupta said, that she was not at all comfortable. In an interview with Inside Bollywood, the actress said, “As an actor, you have to do all kinds of scenes, sometimes you have to step in mud, sometimes you have to stand in the sun for several hours. Many years ago, I did a serial with Dilip Dhawan. It had the first-ever lip-to-lip kissing scene on Indian TV. I couldn’t sleep all night. It wasn’t like he was a friend, we were acquaintances. He was good-looking, but that doesn’t really matter in these situations, because physically and mentally, I wasn’t ready. I was so tense, but I convinced myself to go through with it.”

Sharing her experience further, Gupta added, “It’s like some people can’t do comedy, some people can’t cry on camera. I drilled it into my head, and I did it. As soon as it ended, I rinsed my mouth with Dettol. It was so difficult for me to kiss somebody who I don’t know.”

Unfortunately, the scene had to be removed by the makers after an uproar as a kissing scene was unheard of in an Indian TV show back then. “They had to remove it,” revealed Neena Gupta. Interestingly, Dillagi also starred Irrfan Khan in his early days.

The veteran actress also did an intimate scene in the movie Utsav. Recalling that scene, she said, “It was very difficult.”

Lust Stories 2 will be streaming on Netflix from June 29.
