“Not once did I dress up as Radha” reveals Pooja Banerjee on portraying Krishna’s role for 4 years during Janmashtami

With the lockdown gradually lifting and people across the country stepping out into the new normal, Zee TV resumed shoots of its shows and it reconnected its audiences with the journeys of their beloved characters from 13th July. Kumkum Bhagya, which has been one of the most popular shows on the channel, also offered a rather interesting twist to its viewers after its comeback. In fact, popular television actress Pooja Banerjee was also introduced as the new Rhea and she stirred up the show. The beauty has impressed everyone with her portrayal of the character and why wouldn’t she, after all she has been acting since she was a kid.

On the occasion of Janmashtami, Pooja Banerjee recalls the period of her childhood when she used to be a part of Krishna Leela and rather than playing the role of Radha, she took on the challenge to play Krishna’s role on the day of the festival. As Pooja revealed, “Janmashtami is a very special festival for me and I have several memories associated with it. As a kid, I’ve dressed up several times as Krishna and not once did I dress up as Radha. In fact, my very first play was Krishna Leela and for four years, I played the role of Kanha in it and got appreciated for putting up a great show on the day of the festival. That was my first experience of Janmashtami. Then as I grew up, I used to go regularly to the temple at 11 pm and we used to dance till we get tired. However, this year, I don’t think I’ll be able to celebrate it at the temple. But I’ll still try to have a small celebration at my home and do a pooja as well. In such circumstances, I just want to tell everyone not to lose hope and to stay strong and safe. I also want to wish everyone on behalf of Zee TV and team Kumkum Bhagya a very Happy Janmashtami.”

Apart from Pooja, her co-star and the new Aalia on Kumkum Bhagya, Reyhnaa Pandit has also donned the avatar of Lord Krishna. As Reyhnaa added, “I have some great memories of Janmashtami, especially while spending my childhood in Nagpur. I remember, I used to fast along with my mother during the festival. I used to get excited about it and everyone in the colony used to come together and celebrate the festival. I miss that togetherness and celebrating it with my friends and family. I also remember, we used to have a fancy-dress competition as well and Mom had dressed me as Kanha (Krishna Bhagwan) and my sister as Radha once. It was fun and I am excited for the festival this year as well. While I’ll not be able to celebrate it with my family and friends, but I will do a pooja and make some contribution as well this year. On this special day, I want to wish everyone on behalf of myself, Zee TV and team Kumkum Bhagya, a very Happy Janmashtami.”

While you might not be able to see Pooja or Reyhnaa play Krishna on the small screen anytime soon, wait till you see the actresses turn Prachi, Ranbir, Abhi and Pragya’s life upside down in the upcoming episodes of Kumkum Bhagya.
