Mini Mathur recalls quitting Indian Idol after six seasons; says, “Reality had become constructed”

Mini Mathur, a well-known Indian television personality, has become a household name after hosting the popular singing reality show Indian Idol for six seasons. Her charm, wit, and effortless hosting skills won over audiences across the country and made her one of the most beloved television personalities in India. However, she quit the show after being a part of it for several years. Speaking of the same, she recently opened up about her decision while citing that the makers started “constructing” the reality.

It all happened during her appearance on Cyrus Broacha’s podcast. Commenting on being “offended” when the show drifted off course, she asserted, “I was truly invested in every single person. Even when the cameras stopped rolling, I didn’t drop my smile. They would come to my house for dinner. I would sit with them for hours.”

She continued and said, “I called it quits only when I realised that now, there is no longer a real reality. I did six seasons. After that, it was just a question of making money, but by then, the husband had started making money… But I really didn’t appreciate that reality had become constructed.”

Elaborating her take, Mathur recalled. “Our producers would walk up to me and say, ‘Abhi woh Dharam ji aur Hema aa rahe hain, unka moment karna hai‘. I said, ‘Moment karte hain ke hota hai? Can you leave it to my experience to create something which will move them, maybe?’ This is not something I’m going to do, and of course, it wasn’t just Idol, I did a lot of stuff after that. And it all had the same chhaapa (stamp).”

However, publications covering Mini’s appearance at the podcast have left the actress offended, and her latest tweet is proof of it. She tweeted, “I will choose the publication I want to give an interview to. Kindly do not pick content and make articles…pretending you did all the work!! This is armchair journalism,” along with a note.
